Progress Learning macOS Update Process

Purpose

The purpose of this document is to guide Progress Learning users through the update process for company-issued macOS devices using our Mobile Device Management platform. This process applies to all users and may occasionally require IT support.

Important Notes

  • Duration: Updates may take up to 1-2 hours, so please schedule accordingly to avoid interruptions during meetings or work hours.
  • Types of Updates:
    • Major Updates: Introduce significant system changes.
    • Minor Updates: Include regular maintenance and improvements.

Update Process Overview

  1. Update Notification:
    1. Users will see an update prompt from JumpCloud with a “Your device requires a security update” message. (See screenshot: JumpCloud Update Prompt)

    2. Click “Update Device” to begin the process.
  2. System Update Settings:
    1. After clicking “Update Device,” you’ll be directed to System Settings.
    2. Navigate to General > Software Update (as shown in screenshot: System Settings) to view the available updates.

      2. Initiate the Update:
        1. On the Software Update page, click Update Now to begin the installation
  3. Final Steps:
    1. Follow any additional on-screen instructions to complete the update.
    2. A restart may be required to complete the update. Plan for your system to restart immediately or at a convenient time, as updates will not fully apply until the restart is completed.
      1. The computer may forcibly restart, ensure you have the allotted time (1 - 2 Hours) before-hand.Screenshots for Reference

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues or if the update prompts for admin access:

  • Contact IT by submitting a ticket via the Helpdesk Request Site.
  • For general questions, reach out to IT on email.
